Other Opportunities

There is nothing like getting involved and feeling a sense of ownership in our community. Together we can make a difference! At Covenant we know there are many ways to serve those in need.  How might you give out of the blessings you have received, so you might be a blessing to others? Through the work of our hands, Christ is glorified and we truly learn to love our neighbors as ourselves. Matthew 22:37-39

There is an “Opportunities To Serve” book at the Mission Center with many ways to serve in our community. Additional needs for volunteers can be found in the monthly Mission Newsletter – “Outside Our Walls”. Or contact Ed Fenstermacher or Barb Hering to find out how you can get involved.

Below are some of the ways you can serve locally:

  • American Red Cross Blood Donation – The Bloodmobile comes to Covenant on a regular basis.
  • Associated Churches Food Banks – Covenant collects food year round in support of one of the many food banks supported through the Associated Churches city-wide food bank system.
  • Bashor Children’s Home Quilts – Throughout the year people of Covenant sew quilts that are given annually to the youth at Bashor Children’s Home.
  • Covenant Knitters – Knitters prayerfully knit shawls that are then given to persons needing to feel comfort and love.
  • Fort Wayne Rescue Ministries – Covenant sends a team of unpaid servants to serve dinner at the Rescue Mission several times a month.
  • Habitat for Humanity – An annual All You Can Eat Fish Fry and Tenderloin Dinner is held at Covenant to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. Covenant members also help with local habitat builds and financially support the ministry.
  • Homebound Meals  – Unpaid servants deliver meals and love weekly to shut-ins.
  • Sewing Cancer Pads – United Methodist Women sponsor different times of the year to sew cancer pads for Northeast Indiana Cancer Services.

Become involved in Covenant’s annual Christmas Angel Projects:

During the months of September, October, November and December Covenant participates in 4 projects as part of the Christmas Angel Projects.

  • Christmas Gift Shoeboxes for Red Bird Mission: We fill shoe boxes with small toys, personal and health care items, books, small tools, jewelry, etc. which are then delivered to children and adults by Red Bird Mission in southeastern Kentucky. To learn more visit rbmission.org
  • Gifts for Byron Health Center Residents : We fill the wish lists of residents of Byron Health Center, many of whom are lonely and forgotten during the Christmas season.
  • CASA Christmas Gifts: Gifts are purchased and wrapped for children of the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program. Gift requests are hung on a Christmas tree in the Narthex for the congregation to choose from. The tag includes the first name and age of the child along with that child’s gift wish.
  • Christmas Eve offering: During Advent the congregation is encouraged to celebrate the season by being particularly mindful of giving to designated mission project(s) suggested by the Mission and Outreach Team, culminating with the Christmas Eve service.
